Community Agreements

Icebreaker

In 2010, four New York University students raised $20,000 via Kickstarter to launch "Diaspora" - a social networking site that was federated. Instead of just one web site controlled by one corporation, anyone could launch a Diaspora "pod" and connect to others. They failed. Many other attempts were made since then, including Friendica, GNU Social and others before Mastodon came along.

Starter Ground Rules

Opening

We have thankfully moved beyond the false dichotomy of "real" organizing vs "online" organizing and recognized that it's all part of the same thing. But.... what does online organizing mean? What are we trying to accomplish when we organize online? How does it build our campaigns?

Introductions

Please say your name, organization, pronouns and OPTIONALLY share your thoughts about "online" organizing.

Category

Description

A critical step in online organizing is providing the world with a form and a reason to fill it out. In this area, Powerbase has a lot of options! In Organizing Online, we'll cover how to create custom fields, profiles, petitions, webforms and more. We will review the difference between creating a new field and adding a field to a form. And, we'll cover how online and in-person organizing are inseparable components of any campaign.

Prerequisite: Comfortable adding and editing contacts, contributions, events and activities.

Batch imports provides a way to easily enter a stack of checks all at once - for donations or memberships, ensuring that you don't make any data entry errors with the amounts. You begin by entering the number of checks you have and the total amount of all the checks. Then you are provided with a screen to enter each check individually. When done, Powerbase will do the math to ensure the total of the individual checks equals the total you specified when you created the batch.
