Best practices for how technology has improved organizing & mobilizing systems

I'd like to get an overview of best practices -- small and large -- that have genuinely helped move organizing campaigns forward. What numbers of people were mobilized & what impact did that have on your campaign outcomes? Was the impact worth the investment in technology or would a lower tech solution been just as good?

It would help to know whether some technology works better with specific constituencies. Specifically, what technology has worked with low-income constituents, immigrant communities, lower literacy communities?
